CrewAI review

CrewAI is two things, and the pricing page is only about one of them. The open-source framework is a Python library, described on GitHub as “an open-source Python framework with high-level abstractions and low-level APIs for building production-ready multi-agent workflows”, under the MIT licence. The company now leads with a hosted platform: on 29 Sep 2026 its pricing page listed Basic (free, 50 workflow executions a month) and Enterprise (custom pricing, no dollar figure). If you can write Python, start with the free framework; the platform is aimed at organisations that want governance and hosting.

Framework versus platform

QuestionOpen-source frameworkHosted platform
Where it livesPython library on GitHub, MIT licenceCrewAI cloud, or Enterprise on your own VPC or infrastructure
PriceFree to use; you pay your own model and hosting costsBasic free; Enterprise custom, contact sales
BuildingCode, with “Crews” and “Flows” as its two approachesStudio visual editor and AI copilot
LimitsNone from CrewAI; yours are compute and API billsBasic: 50 included and 50 maximum executions a month, 2 automations
GovernanceYou build itEnterprise: SSO, role-based access, PII redaction, policies

What the pricing page lists

  • Basic (Free): visual editor and AI copilot, GitHub integration, private agent and tools repositories, workflow templates, tracing, guardrails, human-in-the-loop input, cron scheduling and community support. Enterprise connectors, SSO and dedicated support are marked as not included.
  • Enterprise (Custom): everything in Basic plus SSO, RBAC, workload identity, PII redaction and policies, deployment on CrewAI cloud, your own VPC or your infrastructure, a 45-day onboarding and forward-deployed engineering available a la carte. Executions are “sized to workflow” with flexible overage.

The page states it is “used by 65% of the Fortune 500”; that is the vendor’s claim and we have not checked it.

Who it suits, who should skip

  • Suits Python developers building multi-agent systems who want a permissive licence, and larger teams that need managed hosting and access controls.
  • Skip if you want no-code automation with a published price: Gumloop and Lindy list plans; n8n is another option with self-hosting.
  • Note that 50 executions a month on Basic is a trial size, not a production budget.

What this page cannot tell you

How reliably multi-agent runs behave, and what Enterprise costs, are not stated by the vendor. Earlier text made comparisons with other frameworks that we could not source; they are removed.

Method

Researched from CrewAI’s pricing page (read in a browser) and its GitHub repository description, 29 Sep 2026. Nothing here comes from using the product.

Update log

  1. Rewritten from CrewAI's pricing page and GitHub repository: the June text described only the open-source framework and an 'Enterprise Cloud'; the company now leads with a hosted build-and-run platform with a free Basic plan capped at 50 executions a month. Added a framework-versus-platform table and removed unsourced comparisons.
