Mistral Le Chat review

Mistral’s consumer assistant, known as Le Chat, is now presented on its pricing page (read 29 Sep 2026, USD) as Vibe, “your personal AI agent for everyday tasks”, with chat, search, image generation and coding in one plan ladder. Free is $0, Pro is $14.99 a month excluding tax, Team is $24.99 a user a month, and verified students get Pro for $5.99. The page no longer uses the name Le Chat. Mistral’s help centre says “Le Chat has become Vibe” and that existing accounts and plans carried over, and the press covered the rebrand when it was announced on 28 May 2026, so if you are searching for Le Chat you are looking at the same product under its new name.

On the FAQ, Flash answers are capped at 150 a day on Pro and 200 a day on Team. All plans show model training as opt-out.

API pricing

Most models are priced per million tokens. The FAQ gives Mistral Large as $0.5 in and $1.5 out per million tokens, with batch processing 50 percent cheaper and cached input up to 90 percent cheaper. OCR is priced per 1,000 pages, speech models per minute. The API credits bundled into each plan are a way to test that pricing.

Self-hosting and licences

The FAQ says you can self-host Mistral models anywhere, but distinguishes licences: open-weight models such as Mistral 7B are Apache 2.0 licensed for research and individual use, while commercial deployments need a Mistral licence with separate terms. Read the licence for the specific model before shipping a product on it.

Who it suits, who should skip

  • Suits people who want a low-cost assistant plus coding agent and some API credits in one plan: Pro is $14.99.
  • Free is a fair trial: the page lists limited messages, searches and coding sessions rather than a fixed count.
  • Skip if you need published message caps or a compliance statement: the pricing page does not give either, and we found no source for the earlier GDPR claim.
  • Compare ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and, for API cost, DeepSeek.

What this page cannot tell you

Answer quality, language coverage and data residency are not on the pricing page, and we have not assessed them.

Method

Researched from Mistral’s pricing page, read 29 Sep 2026 in a browser session, and Mistral’s help-centre note on the rename. USD as displayed. Nothing here comes from using the product.

Update log

  1. Rewritten from Mistral's pricing page: removed 'best for GDPR compliance', the unsourced multilingual claim and the old plan table; noted that the page now names the assistant Vibe, not Le Chat, and sourced the rename to Mistral's help centre; added Free, Pro, Team and Enterprise inclusions, the student price, the API price example and self-hosting terms.
