Perplexity review

Perplexity is an answer engine: it returns a written answer with inline citations you can open. Its plans page (read 29 Sep 2026) shows Pro at US$17 a month “or equivalent, billed annually” and Max at US$167 on the same basis; a monthly-billing price is not shown in the text we read, so we do not quote one. Start on Free, which is the entry tier. Pro adds deep research, a choice of AI models and larger limits; Max is for people who run the “Computer” agent heavily.

Plans as listed

PlanPrice shownWhat the page lists
Free$0The baseline tier that Pro builds on
ProUS$17 a month, annual equivalentExtended Computer access, 4,000 bonus credits, deep research, choice of AI models, documents and apps, more usage limits and memory
MaxUS$167 a month, annual equivalentEverything in Pro, maximum Computer use, 35,000 bonus credits, 10,000 monthly credits, expert-level research, advanced models, highest limits and memory, priority access to new features

A limited-time offer on the page adds US$40 of free Computer credits to Pro and US$450 to Max. Perplexity says plans are for personal use only. Enterprise is priced separately and is not covered.

Models offered

The page names GPT-6.1 Sol, Gemini 3.8 Flash, Claude Sonnet 5.5, Kimi K3, GLM 5.3 and Grok 4.7 as models Perplexity can route to. This is a strength of the product: one subscription reaches models from several vendors. The page does not say which of these are on Free or what limits apply to each.

Who it suits, who should skip

  • Suits people whose main task is looking things up and wanting each claim traceable to a source.
  • Stay on Free if you search occasionally; the page’s paid case rests on deep research, model choice and limits.
  • Skip Max unless you use the Computer agent enough to justify roughly ten times Pro’s price (US$167 against US$17).
  • Look elsewhere for long drafting sessions or working across your own files: see ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. For the shareable-article feature, see Perplexity Pages (its Create page option is currently retired) and our longer Perplexity AI review.

What this page cannot tell you

Citation accuracy, how deep research compares with rivals and the actual usage limits are not on a pricing page, and we have not assessed them. Earlier text called it the best research tool; we could not source that and removed it. The page’s own example answers show sources, but a cited answer is not automatically a correct one, so open the links that matter.

Method

Researched from Perplexity’s plans page, read 29 Sep 2026 in a browser session (Dutch-language page shown with USD prices, translated by us). Nothing here comes from using the product.

Update log

  1. Rewritten from Perplexity's plans page: removed 'best research tool' and the invented workflow and unsourced Deep Research comparison; added Pro and Max prices (annual-billing equivalents), included credits, model list and the free-tier boundary.
