Flux.1 review

FLUX.1 is no longer Black Forest Labs’ current family. Its API documentation (read 29 Sep 2026) labels the FLUX.1 models “Previous Generation” and sells them alongside FLUX.2 and FLUX 3. The docs list FLUX1.1 [pro] at $0.04 per image (4 credits, with 1 credit equal to $0.01), the Ultra and Raw variants at $0.06, FLUX.1 Fill [pro] at $0.05, Kontext [pro] at $0.04 and Kontext [max] at $0.08. The pricing page adds no end-of-life date. For a new project, price FLUX.2 first.

FLUX.1 API price per image

ModelCreditsPrice
FLUX.1 Kontext [pro]4$0.04
FLUX.1 Kontext [max]8$0.08
FLUX1.1 [pro]4$0.04
FLUX1.1 [pro] Ultra6$0.06
FLUX1.1 [pro] Raw6$0.06
FLUX.1 Fill [pro]5$0.05

On the pricing page, FLUX.1 image cost is quoted per megapixel (a first megapixel, an additional megapixel and a reference-image rate); one megapixel is 1024 x 1024 pixels, and a FLUX.1 image is generated at up to 1,048,576 pixels with each side from 256 to 1,440 pixels. The per-image figures above are the documentation’s. Arithmetic: at $0.04 a picture, 1,000 images cost $40.

Open weights

The pricing page now lists open-weights licences for the newer models, not FLUX.1: Builder (FLUX.2 [klein], 10K images a month, 1 domain, 10 licensed users), Platform (FLUX.2 [klein] 9B and [dev], 100K images a month), Professional (FLUX.2 [dev], up to 3 domains) and Enterprise on request; prices are not shown. The site also links non-commercial licence terms and self-hosted terms of service. We could not confirm from these pages the commercial-use terms of FLUX.1 [schnell] or [dev], which an earlier version of this review stated; read the licence on each model’s Hugging Face card before shipping.

Who it suits, who should skip

  • Suits developers who already integrate FLUX.1 and want a stable, per-image API price.
  • Skip for new builds: FLUX.2 and FLUX 3 are the current lines on the same page.
  • Skip if you want a consumer app with plans: see Midjourney, Ideogram or Krea, and the image generator guide.
  • Compare with OpenAI’s model in Midjourney vs DALL-E 3.

What this page cannot tell you

Photorealism, text rendering and prompt following are not on a pricing page, and we have not assessed them. Third-party hosts such as Replicate and fal.ai set their own prices, which we did not read.

Method

Researched from Black Forest Labs’ pricing page and API documentation, read 29 Sep 2026. USD as displayed. Nothing here comes from using the product.

Update log

  1. Rewritten from Black Forest Labs' pricing page and API docs: removed 'best tool available', the 'comparable to Midjourney V7' claim, the unsourced Schnell licence line, the ~$0.05 Replicate figure and the invented product-photography workflow; added that FLUX.1 is a previous generation, per-image API prices, and the current open-weights licence tiers.
